What are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?
The acronym CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic, which is just a fancy way of saying that this type of custom crown is designed and made within our dental office and not a dental lab. As the word “same day” suggests, these crowns are created in just one appointment. So, you’ll leave with your custom crown already in place.
The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown
To get a CEREC crown, we must start by preparing the tooth. If you are undergoing root canal treatment or another procedure, preparation will be taken care of. Otherwise, we will reduce the enamel of the tooth to make room for the porcelain material.
Once the tooth is ready, we will use our digital impressions system to measure and collect data about your upper and lower teeth, creating a 3D model on our computer. Using special software, we’ll design your crown to fit comfortably in your bite and to blend in perfectly with the rest of your teeth. Then, we submit the crown’s design to our in-office milling machine, which fabricates the restoration out of porcelain with precision.
In about an hour, your crown should be ready. After perhaps making some slight adjustments, we’ll bond it over the tooth, completing your smile!
